Chalanata is melakarta #36 of 72 - raga 6 of the Rutu chakra. Its scale takes shatsruti rishabha (R₃), antara gandhara (G₃), shuddha madhyama (M₁), shatsruti dhaivata (D₃), and kakali nishada (N₃), with Sa and Pa fixed as always. As a sampoorna parent scale it uses all seven swaras in strict order, both ways.
