Vanaspati is melakarta #4 of 72 - raga 4 of the Indu chakra. Its scale takes shuddha rishabha (R₁), shuddha gandhara (G₁), shuddha madhyama (M₁), chatussruti dhaivata (D₂), and kaisiki nishada (N₂), with Sa and Pa fixed as always. As a sampoorna parent scale it uses all seven swaras in strict order, both ways.
